9 Proposed Tax Levy (Additional) City of Broadview Heights

A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage. An additional tax for the benefit of the City of Broadview Heights for the purpose of parks and recreation at a rate not exceeding 0.7 mill for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to 7 cents for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for fifteen years, commencing in 2018, first due in calendar year 2019.

○          FOR THE TAX LEVY

○          AGAINST THE TAX LEVY

It is important to know that you are taxed on your assessed value of your home which is approximately 35% of your homes market value.

For example: If you own a $200,000 home, your assessed value is $70,000.

The tax would be $.07 x $70,000 = 4900 (divided by 100) = $49 annually or about $4/month.

About the Committee for Recreation

The Committee for Recreation supports Broadview Heights Parks & Recreation. The Committee is composed of Broadview Heights residents and friends invested in the future of our wonderful community, and is charged with building support for the levy to support Parks and Recreation in Broadview Heights.

On November 7th, voters in Broadview Heights will be voting on an operating levy that would support Broadview Heights Community Parks and Recreation.  This temporary 0.7 mill operating levy would cost residents ONLY $2.04 per month per $100,000 property valuation, to maintain the parks and recreation facilities and services that the community enjoys.

This levy is critical for maintaining affordable and accessible Community Parks and Recreation Services!

The funds from this operating levy would be used for:

  • Keeping recreation center memberships affordable for residents
  • Supporting holiday and special events
  • Maintaining outdoor parks and athletic facilities
  • Maintaining programs and services
  • Operating the new Community and Recreation Center, which will include: A new 7,000-sq. foot fitness center, A new 11,080-sq. foot gymnasium with 2 full size courts and an elevated 3-lane track, , A new lobby, locker rooms, childcare space, party/community rooms and casual activity space with vending, and a new 8,347 sf natatorium which includes: (4) 25-meter lap lanes, a lazy river, social/program area, a zero depth entry area with a play structure and water features, waterslide, whirlpool spa, steam/sauna rooms, an aquatic climbing wall, basketball hoops and volleyball

What happens if the levy fails?

  • Membership rates at the new Recreation Center will increase drastically
  • The operating hours of the new facility could be reduced
  • Free and reduced-cost programs, such as Silver Sneakers, could be impacted
  • Other programs and the maintenance of some facilities could be impacted
